Learn how banked Codex resets work, how to use them, when they expire, and how to troubleshoot reset issues.

Updated: 20 hours ago

GPT‑6 Astra is rolling out gradually for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans in the coming days. As a part of the rollout, you may be eligible to receive a banked reset for your existing or new Pro, Plus or Business plan.

New accounts are eligible for a banked reset under the following conditions:

September 3, 2026: New Plus, Pro and Business accounts (including new standard and premium seats) created before 10 PM PT.

September 4, 2026: New Plus, Pro and Business accounts (including new standard and premium seats) created before 8 PM PT.

Existing Plus, Pro and Business users (standard, premium seats) in good standing will receive a banked reset both on September 3rd and September 4th.

Please note that it may take several hours for the reset to appear. If you do not see the reset in your account, we may still be rolling it out, or your account may not be eligible. Eligibility may vary based on plan, region, availability, whether your plan is new or existing, and is subject to change.

Overview

A banked reset is a one-time Codex usage-limit reset saved to your account until you use it or it expires. It is not purchased credit and does not permanently increase your plan’s usage limit.

Find and use a banked reset

If you have a reset available:

  1. Open settings → usage on the desktop app, CLI, or on web.

  2. Select the usage summary showing an available reset, such as “1 reset available” or “Full reset.”

  3. Review the expiration details, then confirm that you want to use it.

You may also see the option after reaching a Codex usage limit. The available options depend on your plan and account.

What happens when you use one?

Using a full banked reset refreshes your 5-hour and weekly Codex usage windows and changes your weekly reset date. Check Settings → Usage for your updated reset time.

The reset is consumed only when it successfully refreshes at least one eligible usage window. If there is nothing to reset, it remains available.

Your usage dashboard may take a short time to update. If the percentage does not change immediately, refresh or reopen Settings → Usage and make sure you are viewing the correct account or workspace.

Banked resets vs. automatic resets

These are different:

  • A banked reset is saved to your account and must be applied by you.

  • An automatic or global reset is applied directly to eligible usage limits and does not create a saved reset.

An announcement may include one or both types. Check the specific offer or announcement for details.

Eligibility and expiration

Banked resets are promotional benefits. Eligibility and any qualifying cutoff depend on the specific offer or announcement.

Eligibility, affected usage limits, delivery timing, and expiration vary by offer, plan, workspace, and region. Future resets are not guaranteed.

Check the expiration shown in your account or offer. Once an unused reset expires, it cannot be restored or reissued.

Banked resets are not cash, API credits, or transferable credit balances. For referral-specific terms, see ChatGPT Desktop Referral Promotions.

If your reset is missing or did not work

First, refresh Settings → Usage and confirm you are using the correct account or workspace.

If the issue continues, contact Support and include:

  • The offer or announcement you expected the reset from

  • The date, time, and time zone when you used it

  • A screenshot of your current Usage page

  • The Codex client and model you were using

Support does not provide manual or courtesy resets. We do not offer replacement resets, credits, refunds, or other compensation solely because you were ineligible for an offer, did not notice a correctly applied reset, or let an unused banked reset expire. Other refund eligibility is unchanged.

Support can review eligibility and investigate suspected missing or incorrectly applied resets. Reporting an issue alone does not qualify you for an additional reset or compensation. Any correction is based on verified eligibility and the error identified.
