Who is eligible for this Offer?

This offer is available to current students enrolled at degree-granting universities in the United States or Canada and residing in the United States or Canada at the time of claiming the offer. Eligibility is subject to successful verification. Limit one credit offer per student.

By activating this offer, you agree to the Service Credit Terms and eligibility requirements described below. Once approved, credits will be automatically added to your ChatGPT account for use in Codex.

Do I need a ChatGPT account?

Yes, you need a ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus or Pro plan to get started. After verification, credits will be applied to your account. The credits can be used to extend Codex usage beyond the limits included in your plan.

Does my ChatGPT account need to be associated with my school?

No. You can use your personal ChatGPT account to claim the offer. You will still need to verify your student status using your university email during the verification process.

How do I see my credits?

You can view your credit balance on the usage page. Once the offer is applied, you should see 2,500 credits, which is equivalent to $100. If you run out of credits, you can buy more to extend Codex usage.

How do I redeem the credits?

Start by visiting this page, sign in to your ChatGPT account, and complete student verification through SheerID.

Once you complete the verification process, credits will be automatically applied to your ChatGPT account.

If your account has multiple workspaces, credits will be added to your personal workspace — the one associated with your EDU verification — not a separate non-EDU email workspace (for example, Gmail or Yahoo).

Credits can be used in Codex and expire 12 months after the grant date.

Are these API credits?

No. These are ChatGPT credits that can be used to extend Codex usage beyond the limits included in your ChatGPT plan. You can read more here.

Do credits expire?

Yes, credits expire 12 months after the grant date. Any unused credits after that time period will no longer be usable.

Do I need to make a separate Codex account?

No. Codex is part of your ChatGPT account. Codex uses your ChatGPT account sign-in. To use Codex cloud features, you must be logged in with ChatGPT (API-key-only auth is not eligible). Sign up here.

What if I get an error message that I am not eligible?

You may see an eligibility error for several reasons. Common causes may include:

  • Not being able to successfully verify your student status

  • Attending a school or program that is outside the eligible school types for this offer

  • Being outside the eligible region for this offer

Can I share this offer with friends or family?

No. This offer is intended exclusively for verified eligible students and cannot be shared, transferred, or sold.

Can I use this offer if I already have a ChatGPT subscription?

Yes. If you already have a ChatGPT subscription, the credits can still be applied to your account.

Do I need a separate Codex account?

No. Codex is part of your ChatGPT account. Codex uses your ChatGPT account sign-in. To use Codex cloud features, you must be logged in with ChatGPT (API-key-only auth is not eligible). If you already have a ChatGPT account, sign in and begin the verification flow. If you do not have a ChatGPT account yet, create one first and then complete verification.

I accidentally signed up for the offer on the wrong account or email. What should I do?

At this time, we aren't able to reset the SheerID verification process or transfer your eligibility to a different account. If you’ve already verified your student status but used the wrong email or account, you’ll need to continue using the account you verified with to claim the free credits.

I’ve already been verified by SheerID, but I keep getting taken back to the verification page when completing the claim process.

This often happens when you're signed into a different account than the one you originally used to verify. SheerID verification is tied to your personal info (name, school, and date of birth), not your email, so if you try to verify again with the same info from a different account, you may see a “Verification Limit Exceeded” message.

Please try logging in with the account you used to verify and return to the students offer page to claim your offer. If you're not sure which account was used or you're still having trouble, please contact our support team.

Will I be charged immediately to claim this offer?

No separate purchase is described in the listed sources to claim the promo credits themselves.
