ChatGPT for Teachers

Updated: yesterday

ChatGPT for Teachers is free through June 2027 for verified U.S. K–12 educators.

ChatGPT for Teachers is a secure, self-serve version of ChatGPT for U.S. K–12 educators. It gives teachers and school staff a place to use AI with classroom materials and student data, supported by education-grade protections and admin controls that help schools meet their compliance needs.

ChatGPT for Teachers is free for verified U.S. K–12 educators through June 2027.

You are eligible if you:

  • Work for an accredited U.S. K–12 school or district, and

  • Are a teacher, staff member, school leader, or district administrator

Note: This plan is not for students. Student accounts and student-facing features may come later.

How to get started

  1. Go to chatgpt.com/k12-verification and start the Verification process with your school or district email address.

    1. If you encounter verification errors or are otherwise unable to verify your account eligibility when creating your ChatGPT for Teachers workspace, please reach out to support@openai.com.

  2. After verification, choose whether to create a new workspace for your school or district or join an existing workspace tied to your district domain.

  3. Follow the educator onboarding prompts to set your role, subjects, and grade levels.

If you’re an admin, you can then invite other verified educators in your district and configure SSO, roles, and other workspace settings.

Once verified, you can:

  • Create a new workspace for yourself, your school, or your district

  • Discover existing workspaces associated with your school/district email domain

  • Invite colleagues: Owners and admins can invite other verified educators in the same district

Workspaces are restricted to your own district—you can’t mix educators from multiple districts in a single workspace.
